Improving Accountability and Profitability in the Therapy Department

Hospitals used to be able to afford average productivity and a lack of accountability from the rehab department. Increased salary demands, new compliance standards and RAC audits, combined with decreasing reimbursements, no longer allow for this to be the case. A therapy department finances shouldn’t just be in the black, it should help drive a hospital’s bottom line. Value based care and bundled reimbursements are becoming a reality. Therapy departments need to be proactive in their approach when it comes to measuring functional outcomes in order to prepare for value based reimbursement. Benchmarking productivity, quality and outcomes data is necessary to help accountability of the team.
