CMS Hospital Improvement Act Proposed Changes Nursing, Medical Records, Infection Control, Antibiotic Stewardship Program, Restraints, QAPI, 5-Star Rating Program and More
This session will review CMS’ proposed changes to the hospital conditions of participation (CoPs). Every hospital should know about these changes, including critical access hospitals. These proposed changes include changes to nursing, medical records, infection control, QAPI, patient rights, and restraint and seclusion. In addition, all hospitals will be required to have an antibiotic stewardship program in order to participate in Medicare and Medicaid. It will also require all hospitals to have an antibiotic stewardship program which will include a prohibition on discrimination, which must be given to patients in writing. This program will include discussion on the recent five-star rating system implemented by CMS, which has been added to the Hospital Compare website. CMS created the rating system to help patients and their families to identify areas about which they might want to ask questions.
