EMTALA Update 2017 Part I - The Most Cited Deficiencies by CMS for Hospitals
Every hospital that has an emergency department and accepts Medicare or Medicaid reimbursement must follow the federal law and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) interpretive guidelines on Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA). This includes critical access hospitals.
This presentation will include the EMTALA definitions, regulations and interpretive guidelines from the entire manual, and will review the expanded section concerning on-call physicians. Sue Dill Calloway will cover OIG Proposed changes, the BFCC QIO process, basic concepts, special responsibilities, TJS standards, EMTALA sign requirements, payment issues and much more.
