Maternal mortality in the United States has more than doubled in the past two decades. Almost every state in the nation continues to see maternal mortality and severe maternal morbidity on the rise. Two conditions of pregnancy, labor and delivery are responsible for a great number of those cases: Severe Preeclampsia and Post-Partum Hemorrhage. A focus on the four “R’s”: readiness, recognition, response, and reporting can lead to a marked improvement in outcomes for mothers and babies. This session will focus on specific, practical strategies that hospitals can implement to increase safety during obstetric emergencies.
